It usually starts off great but things can go south quickly
Growing marijuana is a rewarding experience. It’s also a lot of fun, especially when you get to smoke your own bounty at the end. But not every grow is going to end up being a success; here are some common mistakes that growers make that can lead to less-than-desirable results.
Getting started growing marijuana
Before you start growing marijuana, there are a few things you need to know:
- Learn the basics of growing marijuana. There’s no better way to learn about growing than by studying what others have done. Check out my various grow guides and basic info articles to familiarize yourselves with how to do this before you commit.
- Get the right tools for the job. You’ll need a quality grow kit with lights, fans, timers and an air purifier if needed; a soil grower will also need soil (and possibly some fertilizer). You may also want some gloves so that your hands don’t get sticky while trimming plants or buds. Get seeds from reputable sources like North Atlantic Seed Co. or the long lasting Seedsman which has a wide variety of strains. If you decide to order clones instead of seeds (clones are cuttings taken from fully grown plants), make sure to read about the strain so that you know exactly what you’re getting!
While there is a lot of information out there to help you understand how to grow marijuana,
remember that not every encounter is going to end with success.
Here are some of the common mistakes growers make so you can hopefully avoid them and have a successful grow.
- Germination: Make sure your seeds are fresh! Fresh seeds will germinate faster and grow into healthy seedlings. Check out Seedsman because i have yet to have a seed that doesn’t sprout.
- Seedling Stage: Try not to water over the top of your plants as they may get root rot or other fungal diseases if they’re getting too much water. Letting their roots soak in the water for longer than necessary will cause them problems down the road when it comes time for harvest and might kill your plant outright!
- Vegetative Stage: This stage is all about nutrients! Make sure you’re feeding them well in this stage so they’ll be strong enough to flower later on (or else this could mean problems). Also don’t forget about pH levels – cannabis loves acidic soil so check those levels regularly until everything’s perfect! However, be careful. Too much of a good thing can kill the plant. Use a good soil so you don’t have to play with the soil too much.
- Flowering Stage: Less is more in this stage. You have the tendency to want to get that extra height, fatter buds, more buds, or whatever and you mess with your plant. Stress at this stage is bad. All the energy is going into the flowers so you don’t want to mess that up!
- Harvest: Over drying is just as bad as leaving buds filled with moisture. Too far in any one direction will effect the way it tastes and smokes. Use a hygrometer to carefully watch your buds while curing.
Conclusion
If you follow the tips in this article, you should be able to avoid many common mistakes that growers make. But remember: not every encounter is going to end with success. Sometimes, it comes down to luck and desperation. When you fail you can always order weed to your door with Lantern.
